It Has Begun

What an opening cermony. Very restrained. Great colour. Extremely inviting because there was no garish electronics.

Having four venues for the athletes welcome was putting the athletes first and centre just where they should be.

Two cauldrons in two different locations simply lit just added to the atmosphere which I experienced just watching at home. I can only imagine what it was like in the four venues.

The mens downhill started off proceedings and it was electric. Our Irish Olympian finished 32nd out of 34th and completed his run and not everyone did that. That was from learning on a dry slope in the Dublin Mountains. It was great cheering him on.

The biathlon which is my favourite winter sport has been exciting and enjoyable. In the women’s biathlon thoe who were suppposed to win all the medals have not had it all theroir own way. That is what makes the Olympics exciting. Representing you tonw, province and country can get the better od these athletes and suddenly the competion is wide open. In the build up there was no mention of Bulgaria winning a medal but they won a bronze.

If you are watching the Milan Cortina Winter Olympic Games I hope you enjoy them. If you have never watch them give some of the sports a look. You might be surprised and find a sport which you enjoy watching. Perhaps Ice Dance or the figure skating will leave you speechless looking at the grace and athleticism of the competitors. Or perhaps the speed skating. Then there is the team games of curling which is down to skill or icehockey where strength is needed.

Whatevr sport you may watch I hope you enjoy it and please let me know if you do.
