Posting

Now, I don’t know about you but I love to receive a letter or a card in the post. There is something wonderful about the tactile element.

Someone thought that I was worth the trouble of finding a card, writing it, addressing the envelope, purchasing a stamp and finally posting the card. The whole procedure involves thought.

Recently I found it very difficult to purchase a greeting card. I went to two corner shops/ newsagents and neither sold greeting cards. I found a greeting card in my local pharmacy a most unlikely spot but I will remember for the future. The other thing I found that the corner shop did not sell anymore were biros. When I enquired I was told that no one looked for them anymore. People were contacted via text now.

Having written the greetings card I went to the post office to purchase a book of stamps. A book of 5 stmaps was €8.25 while one stamp cost €1.65 Well is it no wonder that people are not sending cards or letters. How can people possibly afford stamps?

There are ads from An Post urging us to post but in all seriousness the cost of postage is prohibitive. A bookof 10 stamps is €16.50 so there is no savings in purchasing a book of stamps. Perhpas An Post could look at the cost. of a book of stamps even to bring it to €16 would be something.

I will still use post for the another wee while as I love to receive post. However I can totaly understand why people have stopped using post as a means of keeeping in contact.
